If you’ve been paying attention, you will have spotted that one of the other Xmas beers this year is Vaclav the Good aka Good King Wenceslas. And if you read about that beer you will know that he was killed by his younger brother, Boleslav the Cruel, who ran him through with a lance. We know this to be true as, by chance, there was a painter present, who was able to capture the scene for posterity. Boleslav took the royal throne (technically it was a ducal throne rather than a royal throne) and ruled for while and was deemed a popular ruler. But enough of this waffle – the beer is a smoked porter, but not too smoky, and is rich and sits at 5.5%abv.
